July has been busy

It has been a fun and stressful month of work to get ready for my exhibition of my work at the jGallery this month. I was delighted to discover I was voted by the general public as the featured artist for the jGallery.

I have also been working with the Hayrack Gallery to get my limited edition prints online so that people can purchase my work online. Go to this link to see whats available BUY ONLINE

And then to be the first on the list of the top 10 things to do in Northamptonshire in our local newspapers was a total surprise.

I am looking forward to seeing my friends, supporters and art lovers from around the county at the open evening tonight at the jGallery. I will post more pictures of the party tomorrow.

View at CN Tower

Original Acrylic on Box Canvas – Acrylic 36″ x 36″

The CN Tower is the typical tourist landmark that you must do once when visiting Toronto.

View of CN Tower

When you visit Toronto, you see it is a multi-cultural international city with residents from all over the world.

The city views from the tower are impressive.

My picture is a rendering of both the city expansion in all directions as well as the diversity of the city population.

Edge of the City

Acrylic on Box Canvas – 36″ x 36″

In Canada I lived a short driving distance from the city of Toronto.

Edge of the City

The feeling of loss that many feel for the mass expansion of Toronto over the last twenty years to be the third largest city in North America was familiar to the loss of green belt here in the UK.

This picture is influenced by the expansion of suburbia into the rural area

Lake in Summer

Acrylic on Box Canvas – 36″ x 36″

I have such great memories of living in Minnesota, USA for over 4 years.  As a family, we often visited our friends cabin ‘up north’ as its termed by the locals.

Lake in Summer

The four-hour drive to the Detroit Lakes area shows you a different pace of life from the big US cities.

This study was inspired by the vast areas of untamed bulrushes that surround the untouched wilderness area.

Mist Shrouded Cottage

Acrylic on Box Canvas – 36” x 36”

When visiting Hadrian’s Wall in the north of England there are wonderful scenes especially as you approach the coasts.

Mist Shrouded Cottage

This picture shows a lonely cottage that I observed early in the morning when walking the wall.

Red Sky at Night

Acrylic on Box Canvas 15″ x 15″

Red Sky at Night

Rendering of the wonderful sunsets I experienced when traveling through South Dakota where the sky seems endless on the flat expanse of the Midwest prairies

Spring Migration

Acrylic on Box Canvas – 60″ x 24”

This picture is a large canvas that was inspired by the bird migrations we witnessed in Canada.

The seasons are more pronounced and winter turns into spring in a dramatic way. The flocks of Canadian Geese returning to our rural house was very inspiring, and noisy.

Bonfire Night # 1

Acrylic on Box Canvas – 36″ x 36″

Inspired by of course the November 5th Guy Fawkes celebration in the UK, however celebrating the saving of the king did not make it over to the US as a tradition.

A secret get together of British ex-pats was a popular known event to celebrate when we lived in Minnesota. Only “Brits’ would understand, the Americans never did.

Bonfire Night # 2

Acrylic on Box Canvas – 36″ x 36″

Bonfire Night # 2

Designed as a pair to complement when shown together in a large space this work centers on the blazing fire at the center of the Guy Fawkes November 5th celebration held in the UK.

Calm, Before Storm

Acrylic on Board 16″ x 20″

Calm, Before Storm

This picture was inspired by watching a storm come across the horizon when we lived in Minnesota.

We had potential tornado warnings that day so it was a serious storm that was approaching.

I was inspired to paint this after the event.
