As I placed in colour and shape my thoughts aligned with the Industrial Revolution.
The atmospheric conditions, the smoke, machinery, the dirt and darkness.
I explain this by the usage of black and grey tones positioned against the glowing of the warm orange and red areas, the crowded scene of metals showing the construction and danger of working within the Industry.

The second in the series for “Diamonds” is less morbid in its consideration than the first attempt. More blue is highlighted to reflect the vision on Diamonds we have.
This picture is more chaotic in structure to represent the inclusions and clarity of a diamond, with sunlight shown as the element of hopefulness in this rendering.
Series pairing envisage opposition viewpoints when shown together.

“Diamonds” is my first abstract expression using Acrylics on Gessoboard
Moving from traditional watercolour to the use of acrylics, enables work without restraint or dictation.
The freeness to explore the pictures structure with increased control and the ability to overlay colour, creates depth and balance, not possible with watercolour.
My inspiration for “Diamonds” was from watching a documentary on the issues of ‘Blood Diamonds’ from war-torn Central African states. I was trying to express the dark side of the Diamond trade with shadow and red colouring contrasted with the blue clarity and cut of diamonds.
